Meeting

I have booked a day trip for the 12th May, going to the historic cathedral city of Lichfield and the National Memorial Arboretum. Lichfield is known for its unique three-spired cathedral, well-preserved Georgian architecture, being the birthplace of Samuel Johnson compiler of the first comprehensive English dictionary, the home of Erasmus Darwin doctor, inventor, botanist and poet and grandfather of Charles Darwin, boutique shopping, and green spaces like Beacon Park.  There is a weekly market on Tuesdays.
The National Memorial Arboretum is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year as the UK's year-round centre of Remembrance. There are 150 acres of beautiful woodland and gardens and over 400 unique and stunning memorials to see. To help you make the most of your visit there are tours and trails, exhibitions in the visitor centre, a restaurant and a gift shop.

LICHFIELD & THE NATIONAL MEMORIAL ARBORETUM - Tuesday 12th May 2026
We will leave Poynton High School at 9.00am and travel to Lichfield where you will have a couple of hours to explore.  You can perhaps visit the Cathedral, Samuel Johnson Museum, Erasmus Darwin House or just browse the town's independent shops and street market.  Early afternoon we will head to the National Memorial Arboretum where we will first take a trip on the Land Train.  The covered Land Train takes you on a 45-minute journey around the Arboretum's main areas with a pre-recorded audio guide.  After this you will have free time to explore on foot, take in the exhibitions in the visitor centre, visit the shop or just sit and enjoy a cream tea.  We will leave the Arboretum at 5.00pm and expect to be back in Poynton around 6.30pm.
Price: £35 (Includes coach and the land train tour)
