20th September 2021 - Just to let you know that both days trips will be going ahead. As a few people would prefer to sit on their own to allow for social distancing the numbers on the coach are reduced so there are just 2 double seats left on the Lakes trip but more space for Nostell Priory. If anyone else would like to go just let me know. The details of the trips are copied below.
Please could everyone who has signed up for the trips now send your payment.
NOSTELL PRIORY - Thursday 30th September The coach will leave the High School at 9am and take us to Batley Mills, a shopping outlet and garden centre where we will have a short stop for a bit of retail therapy or you could just choose to get yourself a morning coffee before we head to Nostell Priory.
Nostell is an 18th-century architectural masterpiece with a landscaped park and gardens, built on the site of a medieval priory. The home of the Winn family for 300 years, it was commissioned by Sir Rowland Winn in 1733. James Paine built the house and later additions by Robert Adam created exceptional interiors. Inside the house, see a collection of Chippendale furniture made specially for Nostell, paintings by Brueghel, Hogarth and Kauffmann, a John Harrison longcase clock and a globally-renowned 18th-century dolls' house.
There are 300 acres of parkland with wildflower meadows, lakes and woodland. Gardens include the menagerie garden, pleasure gardens, a kitchen garden, an orchard an adventure playground and a host of miniature mouse houses (new for summer 2021)
We will leave Nostell at 4pm and expect to be back in Poynton at 5.30-6pm depending on traffic.
NB When thinking about lunch please take the following statement from the NT into consideration: While our cafe has reopened, capacity is limited and we're currently unable to guarantee seated catering for visitors, including groups. We'd advise making your group aware of this in advance of your visit.
Price: £22 (Includes coach and a tip for the driver, entry to Nostell £13.20 extra for Non National Trust members)
AUTUMN COLOURS IN THE LAKE DISTRICT -Thursday 21st October
The Coach will leave the High School at 7.45am. (An earlier start for this trip as it is a longer distance and also we need to make sure that we have left the car park before the school buses start to arrive). We will make a comfort stop at the famous Tebay Services before heading to the lovely market town of Keswick, situated on the shores of Derwentwater and surrounded by mountains. There will be time to explore the shops, galleries and other attractions (Thursday is market day) in the pedestrianised centre and little alleyways and courtyards and take the opportunity to have lunch. We will then take the scenic route past Thirlmere to experience the spectacular landscape and the beautiful autumnal colours of the changing leaves. We will have a stop in the beautiful village of Grasmere before heading to our final destination, the historic town of Ambleside. We will leave Ambleside at 5pm with the aim of arriving back in Poynton at approximately 7.15pm.
Price: £29.50 (Includes coach and a tip for the driver)
